Experimental study on rheological properties of amphibole-rich rocks

【摘要】:正Numerous geological and geophysical evidence indicates that the deep crust in orogens is weak and intensively deformed, allowing for "channel flow" and aseismic deformation in overthickened crust. However, the cause of this low viscosity remains uncertain and contentious. Here we report axial compression experiments on synthetic amphibolites under conditions similar to those prevailing in an overthickened deep crust.
