On the Conceptualizing of Traditional Festival Experiences with Photo-elicitation Interviews in China
【摘要】：Although tourism experiences have always been hot topics in tourism researches, festival experiences cover a wide range of types with scattered and rare results.Takes Guangzhou Spring Festival Flower Fair as an example, the authors of this paper collect the original data by using the method of photo-elicitation instead of the traditional interview, and systematically study the dimensional experiences from the perspective of traditional tourism festivals, according to the qualitative research and analysis method of the grounded theory. This research confirms six dimensions of festival experiences, including social activities, culture, aesthetic appreciation, participation, novel and emotional experiences. Novel experiences could be a new dimension of traditional festivals among them. It is important to note that novelty experiences look for innovation, which should be based on festival culture and traditional culture. At the same time, the authors establish a theoretical framework of traditional tourism festival experiences, which indicates that cultural experiences can promote the generation of novel experiences through aesthetic appreciation, social activities and participation, while emotional experiences run through tourism activities. This paper may theoretically enrich the study of festival experiences by providing theoretical reference for festival management and marketing.
