【摘要】：An increasing number of global shifts are shaping the world business, political and societal landscape. Demographic change, Malthus’s ideas seem to be even more appropriate in the 21st Century than they were in the 19th as world population rapidly grows and erodes resources. Globalisation is having a dramatic impact on world trade with shifts in the centres of economic power to including emerging markets, climate change and ecosystem degradation, to list those most frequently cited having dramatic impact. Major differences in the quality of life and resource scarcity are challenges that underline the inescapable inevitability of change. In this environment the narrative of ‘sustainable development’ is increasingly becoming adopted as a helpful set of principles to make sense of these connected global facts and trends and to guide our political and business responses.
