Dialogue Between Civilizations:The Case Of Malay Traditional Literature and Islam
【摘要】：Since the 1990s,scholars have been talking about the clash of civilizations. It culminates in the publication of Samuel Huntington's masterpiece:The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order in 1993. In this book,Huntington argued that, after the end of the Cold War,the clash of ideologies had ended; but clash of another kind, the clash of civilizations, would arise. He listed eight civilizations that might come into conflict with western civilization, among them were Hindu,Islamic,Japanese and Chinese civilizations. When the Twin Towers in the United States were attacked by Arab hijackers from Al-Qaeda,everyone proclaimed that this was an example of clash of civilizations. There was talk of launching a crusade against Islam. The talk has now somewhat toned down but it still lingers on. Is clash of civilizations unavoidable? I do not think so. Civilization itself is neutral. It can cause conflict but it can also promote co-existence,thereby bringing about world harmony and prosperity.
