Efficacy of Herbal Medicine for Depression in Parkinson's Disease:A Systematic Review of Clinical Trials in China
【摘要】:正Objective:Depression is the most common non-motor syndrome of Parkinson's disease.Herbal medicine(HM) has been used to treat depression for more than 2000 years.Recently,a few evidence-based reviews on HM for depression have been published. However, there is no review focused on the effectiveness of HM for depression in Parkinson's disease(dPD).To investigate the effectiveness of HM in the treatment of dPD,a systematic review of clinical trials was conducted. Methods:A systematic search, including English and Chinese literature, was performed to identify clinical trials examining the effectiveness of HM for dPD.The methodological quality and risk of bias of included studies was assessed using the Jadad scale and Cochrane risk of bias assessment, respectively.Weighted mean difference(WMD) with 95% confidence interval(CI) was used as the effect measure. Results:A total of 10 studies involving 582 patients were identified in China. Most of the included studies were of high risk of bias with flawed study design and poor methodological quality. The pooled results revealed that HM combined with Western medicine significantly improved the total scores of Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(WMD = -7.35; 95%CI:-11.24 to -3.47) and the score of Hamilton rating scale for depression (WMD = -4.15;95%CI:-5.19 to -3.12) compared with Western medicine, respectively. Conclusion:There are preliminary evidences that HM may be benefit in the treatment of dPD.However, according to the poor quality of the included trials,it might be uncertainty that there was a superiority of HM for treating dPD.More rigorous trials are needed to accurately determine the advantage and disadvantage of HM for dPD.
