DNA Compaction and Decompaction:Bulk and Interfaces

Maria da Graca Miguel
【摘要】:正 Polyvalent cationic cosolutes induce DNA complexation, compaction and protection. Our physico-chemicalresearch on various mixed systems of DNA and cationic amphiphiles and polyions in bulk and at interfaces will beoutlined.Interaction of DNA with simple cationic surfactants will be reviewed, followed by DNA interaction withcationic-anionic mixtures. These also include interaction with thermodynamically stable catanionic vesicles, built onclassical and aminoacid-based surfactants.Through phase map determinations and cryo-transmission electronmicroscopy,an overview from phase behaviour to microstructure will be presented for several cases. We will alsoaddress DNA compaction and decompaction phenomena in different mixed systems, and their dependence on theamphiphile hydrophobicity and mixture.
