Self-assembly of Amphiphilic Block and Graft Copolymers

【摘要】:正 After reviewing different types of amphiphilic copolymers we consider their self-assembly and compare it to that of simple surfactants. Self-assembly varies strongly with copolymer architecture but for block copolymers there is a close resemblance to surfactant behaviour. However, as described by phase diagrams for ternary polymer-oil-water systems, the variation in self-assembly structure is much richer for copolymers; the richness increases with copolymer molecular weight. For a case of an ABA triblock copolymer there are 9 different phases, micellar and reversed micellar, hexagonal and reversed hexagonal, lamellar and four different cubic phases. There is a striking sresemblance to the behaviour of neat AB block copolymers as a function of the relative sizes of the two blocks. For graft
