The Low-income Group in China's Urban Areas A Sociological Investigation into the Employed Urban Impoverished People
【摘要】：正 A new characteristic has appeared in the emergence of the urban impoverished class in China since 1994: an accelerated increase in the number of employed impoverished people. The number is large, and it is significantly industry-related. The major cause of poverty of the employed urban residents is that their nominal income and their cost of living are out of line with each other. In some loss-making enterprises that have been in a state of off-production or semi-off-production and have long failed to pay up their employees' wages, the length of the employees' service and their seniority almost make no sense in accounting for the difference in income between different households. The families of some employees in extreme poverty have broken up because they were unable to sustain their normal life, and the life of a small number of employees has shown a trend of absolute poverty and they are in a miserable condition.
