Moisture Management Tester: A Method to Characterize Fabric Liquid Moisture Management Properties
【摘要】:正Fabric liquid moisture transport properties in multi-dimensions, called moisture management properties influence the human perception of moisture sensations significantly. A new method and instrument named Moisture Management Tester (MMT) has been developed to evaluate textile moisture management properties. This new test method can be used to quantitatively measure the liquid moisture transfer in the fabric in multi-directions in one step, where the liquid moisture spreading on fabric both surfaces as well as transfer from one surface to the opposite. Ten indexes (WTt, WTb, MAt, MAb, MWRt, MWRb, SSt, SSb, OWTC and OMMC) are introduced to characterize the liquid moisture management properties of fabrics. 8 sets of sportswear are tested by using the MMT. The results show that the liquid moisture management properties were significantly different among the fabrics. The objective measurement results are compared with subjective perception of moisture sensations during exercise. It is found that fabric one-way-transport capacity and overall moisture management capacity are becoming significantly correlated with perception of clammy and damp sensations, with the increase of the exercise time, indicating that subjective perceptions of moisture sensations in sweating such as clammy and damp can be predicted measurements of the MMT.
