The Spiritual Motive of Capitalism: from Max Weber to Liah Greenfeld
【摘要】:Despite with/having different interpretations on the spirit of Capitalism, Max Weber, Werner Sombart and Richard H. Tawney were all anxious about the falling of modern Capitalism and the spiritual crisis resulting from it. Liah Greenfeld, who disagreed on the association between Individualism and the rise of Capitalism, replaced the individual consciousness in Weberian Proposition with the "collective ideology". However, her argument, which attributes the emergence and development of Capitalism to the "English Nationalism", could neither distinguish the origin of Capitalism, nor fit the framework for the history of Capitalist development.
