A Probe into English Translation of Sunzi Bingfa from Eco-Translatology Perspective
【摘要】：Sunzi Bingfa, the earliest, most valuable and most famous military Chinese treatise, enjoys an excellent reputation as "military classic" both at home and abroad. Samuel B. Griffith's version—Sunzi: The Art of War was accepted in the Chinese Translators Series of UNESCO, which provides a valuable corpora of studying and understanding the excellent traditional Chinese culture for foreigners. Authors in the paper attempt to probe into Griffith's version of Sunzi Bingfa from Eco-Translatology perspective. The study has found that Griffith's version, generally adopting TL-oriented translation, is the result of his holistic selection and adaptation. Linguistically, Griffith, employing explicitation translation strategy, produces both idiomatic English expressions and original rhetoric features; Culturally,Griffith, utilizing domestication translation strategy supplemented with foreignization, incorporates organically original Chinese culture and western culture; Communicatively, Griffith, adopting paratext addition translation strategy, maximizes the communications among the author, translator and readers. It is hoped that the probe is of great significance to disseminate excellent traditional military Chinese culture.
