Judicial Inputs and Crime Prevention:What Can We Learn from China Data
【摘要】:正Whether budget devoted to law enforcement effectively prevents crime has been at the centre of debates for a long time, but primarily in America. In this paper,I seek to inspect the relationship between judicial inputs and crime reduction based on China provincial panel from 1989 to 2006.The judicial authority turns out to be ineffective in performing its duty when instrumental variable method adopted.Either the research reveals little evidence that ideological indoctrination relevant inputs have significant influence on China's crime prevention. However, some other socioeconomic factors such as social welfare expenditures, education level and urbanization, play significant roles in this issue. These findings suggest transitional governments should rethink the financing given to judicial system and shift their attention to some more cost-effective means.
