Airborne Particulate Matter(PM_(2.5)) in Zhongyuan urban agglomeration during 2015 and 2016:Variability and Divergence

【摘要】:Zhongyuan urban agglomeration(ZUA),takes Zhengzhou as the centre,including Luoyang,Xuchang,Xinxiang,Kaifeng,Jiaozuo,Pingdingshan,Luohe and other cities,is located in the middle of Henan Province in China,and is the core of the Zhongyuan Economic Zone.In 2015,the ZUA has the land area of 58.7 thousand square kilometres,with a total population of 42.75 million people,gross domestic product(GDP) of $2.172 trillion,accounting for about 0.61%,0.61%,3.1% and 3.2% of the country,respectively.With the rapid social and economic development in ZUA,the regional and composite characteristics of air pollution are becoming more and more obvious.The severe regional air pollution in the urban agglomeration is just beginning to emerge.Fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5)) is the principal pollutant of the atmosphere in the ZUA.The ZUA often becomes the most serious air pollution area in China in recent years.Hitherto,the air pollution of ZUA has received little attention.The characteristics of PM_(2.5) concentrations in ZUA were investigated by means of analysing the hourly monitoring data of PM_(2.5) concentrations from June 2014 to February 2017 combined with the geographic and weather conditions of the eight cities in ZUA.The variation in PM_(2.5) concentrations among the eight cities was analysed quantitatively according to the coefficient of divergence(CD) among these cities.The results show that mean annual PM_(2.5) concentration in ZUA vary between 71.77–94.96 μg/m3 in 2015 and 67.64–85.31 μg/m3 in 2016,respectively.The mean annual PM_(2.5) concentration of all cities in ZUA failed to meet the grade II quality standard of China(35 μg/m3),indicating the seriousness of urban PM_(2.5) in ZUA.The mean annual PM_(2.5) concentrations of cities(except Luoyang) in ZUA in 2016 are lower than that in 2015.In 2015,the mean PM_(2.5) concentrations of Zhengzhou,Jiaozuo,Xinxiang,Xuchang decrease in the order of winter,spring,autumn,and summer;those of Luoyang,Pingdingshan decrease in the order of winter,spring,summer,and autumn;those of Kaifeng,Luohe decrease in the order of winter,autumn,spring,and summer.The mean PM_(2.5) concentrations of Zhengzhou,Luoyang,Kaifeng,Jiaozuo,Pingdingshan,Xinxiang decrease in the order of winter,autumn,spring,and summer;those of Xuchang and Luohe decrease in the order of winter,spring,autumn,and summer in 2016.All of these show that the cities in ZUA,like Beijing and other northern cities,are vulnerable to the impact of PM_(2.5) pollution in winter.The increase of pollution sources caused by the heating in winter and the meteorological conditions in winter makes the ZUA prone to PM_(2.5) accumulation and cause serious PM_(2.5) pollution.The annual CDs of the PM_(2.5)between every two cities in ZUA ranges were 0.2971–0.1873 and 0.3067–0.19537 in 2015 and 2016,respectively.There was a high correlation coefficient between the CD values of two cities and the distance between the two cities.These results imply that the interaction of PM_(2.5) between the cities in ZUA with the near distance is greater than that with a far distance.
