【摘要】:正Confucian thinkers idealize the purity of the mind - namely, the mind should be free from; elements that might detract from its ethical orientation. This idea they express through the use such terms as xu虚.and jing静.At the same time, they also emphasize the state equanimity of the ideal person - namely, the ideal person is free from worries and is perturbed by adverse circumstances of life. This paper discusses the way in which these two id are related in Confucian thought. It argues that, for the Confucians, purity involves a detachm from external conditions of life and from one's relation to these external conditions, and it through this detachment that the mind can maintain its equanimity.
